When you stop chasing weight loss as a goal, you’ll be successful. Why is that?

When you stop chasing weight loss as a goal and focus on feeling the best you can feel as a goal, you’re going to get really consistent.

I have seen it so many times. You’ve got a wedding coming up, and you use that as a goal to lose weight and get fit. The wedding passes, you feel a little lost, so you go right back to square one. When you workout to look good for a specific event, while great in the short term, it does nothing for you long term.

Weight loss is such a negative goal anyway. I mean, wow it’s amazing to lose weight, but focusing on that when I’m working out, would cause me to quit. I’d give up! I would not spend 30-50 mins on a session if it was to just help me lose weight.

But that’s what so many women are encouraged to do! Focus on the points, the fat content, how many calories you’ll burn in a session… that sucks! No wonder so many people give up after a session. If I did a workout and saw that all I did was burn 300 calories, for all that effort, I’d pack it in.

Reframing the way you think about exercise is the key to success.

Exercise is a fabulous way to control your emotions, mood, and feelings about yourself. It makes you feel that you can achieve anything. It makes you feel happy and relaxed. It makes you feel at peace with the world and more able to think clearly. It helps you focus on the important stuff. It helps you work through problems. It gives you confidence.

Would you want all that taken away from you?

Focus on everything it gives you. Avoid thinking of it as a means to get thin. I mean it works, but it won’t keep focused for long if that’s all you see it as.

Good luck, Jessica X
